James’ and Sara’s Excellent Antarctica Adventure

Day 16: Drake passage, Beagle channel, Ushuaia – special sport and food edition

Sorry none of you could open video……have tried again at the end of this blog.

In the meantime, James finally managed to get his act together and get some photos of his sporting exploits throughout the cruise. He did 2 kayaking outings and 2 standup paddle boarding events.

Kayaking in the Falklands. James was the only kayaker that day
Cierva cove
Nice iceberg in the background
Look at all the broken ice
West Falklands
West Falklands
Here’s James very very close to a whale. There were several in the water during this activity which was in Charlotte Bay, our southernmost point in the journey

Food, glorious food

James’ favourite restaurant was Koko Sushi. We ate there on our first and last nights and a 3rd night in between. Here’s what the food looked like

We also went to the french restaurant Lumiere, which serves a 7 course meal

So having another go at the plunge ….James is wearing a green cap

Post script : We have just arrived at Ushuaia and guess what is sitting on the, pier, waiting to be loaded onto the ship…….the submarine!!!!!!

  1. Shame about the submarine. Very impressed with James – was the water temperature colder than the air temp??
And the food? Well – no thanks, not for me 🙂

  2. Fabulous! Well done, James…. and what a photo of James and the whale tail. Pity about the submarine but if Sara hates crossing over water, what does she think of being under the water?! xx

  3. Good on you James! Also, it’s a ‘stand-up’ paddleboard not a ‘kneel down’ paddleboard 🙂

  4. Concrats to the Icy swim. Food looks like little individual artworks to be tasted…presention is part of the art of eating .
The shot with James and the wales fins in the background…almost looks like a surreal painting.

  5. What a wonderful experience James, something you will never forget. Magnificent!
Looking forward to all the stories on your return.

  6. Brrrrrrr! – well James you did all on offer – well done… was it a bit scary paddling so close to whales – one tail flap/flop would create quite a wave as you looked so tiny. Sar well done with all the great pics and facts. Food WOW WOW … next experience quite the opposite, scenery, weather, and most likely back to normal food but then again you have both set a new standard??? xxx
