Japan 2022 Day 8

Day 8: Sapporo (Hokkaido) to Kamikochi

Had early start as today is a travel day. We were staying on the 27th level of the Prince Hotel. Join us for the lift ride down and then for breakfast with Phil and Hero(our guide).

Bus to Sapporo airport. We are leaving the north island of Hokkaido to travel to main island of Honshu. Sapporo Airport is pretty modern (as is Sara’s very lovely new cabin luggage – the beautiful green one next to Sally)

The shops at this airport are something to behold…..

Wagyu beef …$739 for the whole piece, or $67 a kilo
Sushimi in packets to take home for dinner
Lots of different fish
Cheeses galore

And there are even ornaments for your mask !!

It’s good that they are nikel free?!?#

Landed at Toyama and travelled by bus through the Japanese alps to the secluded village of Kamikochi. Stunning scenery — tall cedars, babbling streams, lots of hydro engineering plants, and very colourful red bridges

Our hotel at Kamikochi is set between various mountains, in the middle of lakes and forests. Very peaceful.

This is our travel group in front of the hotel

And this is some of the scenery and colours we saw on our walk this afternoon with the setting sun

Black bears visit here so when you go for a walk, it is advisable to take a bell with you

Dinner was a five-course Michelin style affair.
We had a line of waiters to greet us.

Noritake plates
Chestnut cream soup being poured over confit chicken and mushrooms

  1. Oh Sar, looks magical. Loved the lift ride. Think it was scarier from the end of those watching your video than was for you.

  2. Morning All… loving your blog Sar… really enjoying my daily dose. Chestnut cream soup sounds way better than chicken custard soup… hope you noted all the courses and asked them a copious amount of questions as to the ingredients so you can reproduce your meal for friends and fam who aren’t there with you …. with help from James with his knowledge and Satako of course mmmmm. Sam, you may receive as your prize a nickel-free adornment though our mask regime has finished… another bag Sar …
Satako your tour looks brilliant… xx

  3. Mmmm! I think I would have had the Beef Wellington followed by Caramelized Apple crepe and vanilla ice cream.
Photos are beautiful – particularly the sun setting over the mountains
