Hitting the trail with Queen Charlotte

Day Last: Magnificent views and mud

Todays walk was 20km or 6 hours. For reference, our 10 minute bite size walking chunks have transformed to 10 tango mates, so we are doing 40 TM s today!)

There is an excellent brochure about the Queen Charlotte Track which outlines the walk in detail. The brochure only uses the word “steep” once and that’s in reference to the last day of the walk.
So the first part of todays 20 km walk was exceedingly steep, made more difficult by the heavy rain the night before which turned the track into a virtual slippery slide. I succumbed to the mud as did everyone else’s boots and pants

Once we had conquered the muddy steep climb to the saddle, we took a rest to admire the fantastic scenery and have a cuppa.

A bit further along and it was time for lunch and more magnificent scenery.

We finished 2 TMs ahead of schedule!

Water taxi back to the office of Wildnerness Guides in Picton where we were greeted with beer, champagne and cheese, and a handy high pressure hose to wash all the mud off our boots, poles and clothes.

Great sense of achievement with a lovely group of people. On to the next walk…….
