Sara and Robyn say “au revoir” and “Hallo”

June 29: Antibes to Oslo

Sad to say farewell to Nicky who has been a wonderful host to us. We wouldn’t have seen nearly as much without her local knowledge and driving (and we probably would have starved without her help in ordering meals !)

Look who I had sitting next to me on the plane to Oslo….

Ang, she looked so much like Muffy. The dog has to fit under the seat in front in order to be allowed on the plane and the dog’s owner said it was very expensive ( but I didn’t feel sorry for the owner because she lives in Norway where she has a summer house in addition to her home and a place in Nice….not sure whether the dog’s collar was coated with real diamonds!)

Oslo is a real contrast to Nice. Big wide boulevards, fantastic transport system, most signs have English as well as Norwegian, and everyone is really helpful. At the train station there is a dedicated person to answer all your questions. You just stand inside the yellow circle and help is there!

Lots of colour and movement in the city. It’s Gay Pride week; there were some buskers performing, and we also saw a protest about the Ukrainian war.

We walked to the Royal palace just in time to see the changing of the guard.

Then we took the tram to the famous Vigeland sculpture park which represents the life work of sculptor Gustav Vigeland. It has more than 200 sculptures in bronze, granite and forged iron.

The park itself was beautiful. Very green and lush. And the cloud formations were also beautiful.

As you can see, the weather was also a complete contrast to France. Much cooler and some rain.

We had dinner at 10 pm ( we had to wait an hour for our meal to come as the restaurant had run out of rice! To make up for this inconvenience, we got complimentary luncheon vouchers and a couple of free drinks).

Sunset is at 11pm and sunrise is at 4 am.

Thats enough for today!
