The journey begins
Unlike many domestic flights, the Qantas flight to San Francisco left on time and arrived early (strong headwinds?). Alas, the customs queue was worse than at LA. In fact, it took SO long that all the luggage from the flight had been offloaded from the carousel! Something I have never seen before was a special section in the Customs area for passengers in wheelchairs.

Very neat, don’t you think? I know…you’re wondering how the wheelchairs get to the counter. Well the customs staff are on hand to push them!
Glorious weather in San Francisco. Ventured down to the SF museum of modern art. There was a special exhibit of a Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama. One of the large exhibits of hers were pumpkins.

I wondered whether she was the same artist whose large pumpkin got destroyed on Art Island. Anyone know?
Her two room exhibit were mirrored rooms, to experience the illusion of boundless space. Her signature motif is the polka dot. You got to spend two minutes in each room and could take a chair in, in case you got dizzy!

have circled my feet, in case you’re wondering! It reminded me a bit of the mirrored fish exhibition in Tokyo.

In another room, called the Visitors, there’s a series of videos showing artists playing music. This was filmed in a single take at dusk by an artist from Reykjavik. He’s the one playing guitar in the bath!

Lots of sculptures throughout, like this one in the outside Sculpture garden, with the city in the background.

Had to restrain myself from buying one of these dog sculptures ( until they told me the price… a mere $US 4000!).

I reckon the one on the right looks a bit like Norbert!
Off to the Comedy Club tonight. And then a very early flight to Fairbanks
