Apart from the magnificent scenery, glorious flowers, dramatic landscapes and fabulous hiking, Aspen is a haven for dogs. Dogs have all sorts of rights here (that they don’t get in Australia).

Custom-made dog drinking bowls!
Like their owners, most of the dogs are well groomed, smartly dressed and there is a preponderance of the “oodle” variety.

Occasionally you will see a dog that’s not quite up to scratch or in keeping with the high grooming standards

And you can find a wide variety of hats, coats and bags aimed at the dog market

Of course, in summertime, Aspen is a haven for music….whether it’s classical or jazz or opera. The Klein Music tent is the centre of much of the activity, and you can buy a ticket and go inside the tent, or you can park your rug, chairs, wine on the lawn surrounding the tent and enjoy the concert for free. When the concert starts, you cannot hear a pin drop.

The dogs also get to enjoy these concerts and they somehow observe the silence while the music plays. Not a bark is heard!

So far, we have seen an opera, “The Marriage of Figaro”, a musical theatre production “Come From Away”, two classical concerts featuring Stravinsky, Bartok, Beethoven and Rachmaninov, and a jazz concert celebrating the music of Harry Belafonte ( and that was in the first 5 days!). The jazz conductor was wearing a really cool jacket, and he introduced us to the drummer in his band who came from Perth!

There’s a street market every Saturday. Last Saturday Donald Trump happened to be in town for a fundraising campaign. One of Aspen’s billionaire property owners hosted it. (There are about 50 billionaires that live in Aspen and their combined wealth is $355 billion. Not to mention the non-residing billionaires who own properties here). For $500,000, you could get your photo taken with him. Nevertheless, Donald didn’t turn up at the street market.

That huge bag of popcorn which Diana is holding only cost $8!
Weather has been on the cool side ….perfect for walking along the town’s many trails, and experiencing the fabulous scenery

Also shared some great food with Warren and Di and their friend Mike

Time to say goodbye to Aspen and a fabulous holiday.

To my joyful friend, we’re so glad everything worked out well. We’ve been to Colorado in winter, so your wonderful commentary and pics of their summer life just makes it tempting to return out of ski season.
Is that a kelpie I spy in the middle of the four-paws line-up?
Travel home safely and thanks for putting so many smiles on our faces.
Love, J&J

Just gorgeous! So lovely to see you on the other side of the world with your family. You all look happy and healthy. Molly was shocked when she saw all the photos of the naked dogs. She wonders why when there are so many outfits available, And none of them are wearing them. I wish you could have brought the man from the show home with you!
