June 26: Porto
Departed ship and reached our hotel at Porto. We are right on the waterfront of the popular Ribeira area. Interestingly there can only be two taxis on the waterfront at any one time, so we had to wait a while to arrive. Tiny hotel – only 7 rooms. Here’s the view from our rooms

Of course it is a touch noisy, with doof doof music just under our window!
There is a nearby funicular which takes you up to the high part of the city (avoiding the need to walk up some very steep streets). I took the funicular and then worked my way back down to the hotel.
Visited the famous Majestic cafe, and had another visit to the markets where I found the community piano, and -something that I have never seen before – crocheted bannisters ( presumably to enable you to use the bannister even when very hot – well that’s my theory).

We found a restaurant along the waterfront for dinner. The waterfront looks glorious when the sun is going down.

I have circled where our hotel is.

As we were sipping coffee, we saw our ship, the Estrela, doing the cruise up the river to see the lights of the river.

Noooooo doof doof under the window!?!?!?!?
I thought Funicular was a song – I remember it from my childhood 🤗
I hope you had a few Portuguese tarts while you were there. xx
