James’ and Sara’s Excellent Antarctica Adventure

Day 12: Mikkelsen Harbour and Cierva Cove

Being an avid weather groupie, Martin has asked for the coordinates of our position. So here it is

Very cold today..it’s between zero and 2 deg C and it snowed lightly all day, was cloudy and overcast. In the morning we took the zodiacs over to Mikkelsen Harbour and did a short walk to see the penguins, seal, and whale bones

You can see I am pretty rugged up, and if you look closely you can see the sleet
Whale bones

How many species of feet are in this picture ?
No matter how cold it is, you can find penguins!

In the afternoon, we did a zodiac cruise around Cierva Cove. Sara’s zodiac got stuck on a piece of ice ( which was momentarily stressful)

You can see all th e icebergs floating behind me
The sun was making its best effort to shine!

James went kayaking ….water was very smooth and still

And here’s a sample of some of the icebergs we saw….so iridescent blue

Fascinating – now it really looks cold. Love the blue iceberg. Has James been practising his kayak rolls? Xx

When you are all rugged up, are you actually warm enough?

Are you kidding re: Zodiac stuck on ice – ‘momentarily stressful’ …… Glad to know you made it back to warmth of Ship & a well earned nip of whisky (perhaps)?

I think you are incredibly brave just to travel in the zodiac!
