Day 1: Singapore…..
Very smooth flight from Sydney to Singapore and all was going well until I tried to check into the Crowne Plaza at Chiangi airport……

I don’t need to tell you about the chaos at airports and hotels that Crowdstrike’s software update caused. But it took me back to the trip to Antarctica when flooding caused our plane to turn back (James, are you remembering the stress?..)

Well I wondered whether I was blighted whenever travelling to one of the Poles!
My flight from Singapore to Oslo was due to depart the next day at midnight (I had decided to break the flight rather than spend many many hours at Chiangi Airport. In hindsight, this was probably a good decision…..
However, the next day and a half were a bit anxious, wondering whether my flight would in fact, depart.
So I spent the day trying not to think about it. I visited the Botanic Gardens and saw the most magnificent orchids in the National Orchid Garden.

They have a VIP section with hybrid orchids dedicated to different world leaders. The only Aussie to have their own orchid was Peter Cosgrove. And Kamala Harris’ orchid looked a bit sad and colourless…. a foreboding sign?

Also spent some time visiting the Jewel at Chiangi airport…an amazing maze-like structure with a huge waterfall at its centre

I know you are all hanging out to know whether I made it to Oslo. I did!

Was thinking about you Sara and how you got on. As usual, making the most of things. Can’t quite pick the Peter Cosgrove or the Kamala Harris but thinking the latter was the last photo? If so, like the irony. Will await next instalment with nervous anticipation. Thanks for these posts, love them. xxx

Hi Sar
Living vicariously through your travels is almost as good as being there …delays and all!
We hope your onward journey to the pole is a tad smoother.

Thank God you got to Oslo!! Thinking about you all the time!
Martin and I are feeling very relaxed at Lilianfels. Today the weather is gorgeous – very cold but sunny. An 80th birthday afternoon tea was held in this hotel today and 4 of the attendees were Narelle Chris Tara and Peter. Lovely to meet up with them and Chris’ large family. It was his Auntie’s birthday. So pleased to receive your blog. Love you – hope there are no further/future hitches with your travels xxxx
