The Pantzers in Aspen

July 9-10: Last Aspen days

Some scenes from around the town…..(the deer is real; the dog is not!)

There are hundreds of trails around the mountains of Aspen so yesterday (July 9), I took the Ajax trail from the base of Aspen Mountain. Once you’ve climbed part way up the mountain, the trail becomes a lovely undulating track across the mountain. You can see the area where a very deep mining operation occurred in the hope of striking some high grade silver ore. The Deep Shaft, as it was known, did not deliver on the promise, despite huge investment and the application of advanced engineering techniques.

Warren and Diana hosted a farewell dinner for me ( and a welcome dinner for Viv who arrived yesterday).

Drinks on the verandah at dusk with not a mosquito in sight (only squirrels, deer and the odd bear!)

And then a lovely 3 course dinner…..

My last day in Aspen (July 10) and finally my bro feels acclimatised enough to take an early morning walk with me.

Dogs make good use of the Roaring Fork river. We watched one dog (who looked a lot like Norbert) jump into the river, get swept along by the rapids and finally leap up onto the bank.

Final lunch at Clark’s before finishing packing. Flight delayed a couple of hours.

Bye bye Aspen and thanks everyone for joining me on my journey
