June 16: Crossing the border to Slovakia
In response to your questions, we are walking between 7-10 kms per day…it doesn’t sound far but it’s mountain climbing, so many ups and downs, and not many flat sections!
So this was today’s walk..”Ahoy” is hello in Slovak….

We drove to Szczawnica ( a completely unpronounceable name),and started our walk from Palenica a mountain above the unpronounceable name).

We took a chairlift to the top, and this was a bit stressful for me as in all my years on earth, I cannot remember using a chairlift. Deena captured my adventure.

I was very happy to arrive safely…
The walk took us along the border between Poland and Slovakia. Here’s Jim and Deena in two countries at the same time….one foot in Poland and one foot in Slovakia.

The border is marked by white blocks with red tops – S on one side;P on the other.

As we walked along the ridge, the scenes were spectacular

After walking through a lovely forest, we walked across open plains with long grasses and just the imprint of a path where hikers walked. It was magical

We walked past a farm house where they made smoked cheese, from the milk of the farm sheep. The yellow bits circled in red is the cheese

Lunch and then off to see the local sights of Kezmarok, which dates back to 1463. It has a castle built by a Hungarian family. Eventually the town purchased the castle from its private owners. We also saw a magnificent evangelical church built in 1717.

Then to the Grand Kempinski in the high Tatras. Certainly cannot complain about my room
