June 11: Domme
We walked down the hill to the village for our usual coffee and brioche. Along the way we found the walnut museum. The big boulders on the road are meant to represent walnuts and I’m standing in front of the museum’s walnut grove..

Ok… now tell me what is the fatal flaw in the Emergency Assembly area sign?

We went to Domme for lunch. Domme is a medieval fortified town (a”bastide”), built in 1281 as a strategic stronghold overlooking the Dordogne valley.
Domme’s past is quite dramatic: it was a planned town with walls and gates, designed to control the region during conflicts with the English. It was captured and recaptured during the 100 years war. And in 1307, the Knights Templar were imprisoned here, and their graffiti carvings are still visible today.

Its wow factor is the view over the valley.

Today was market day, but its market was less fruit and more retail than Cénac or Belvès markets.

They eat a lot of foie gras here, a lot of which comes in various sized tins.

A quiet dinner at home as we leave early tomorrow morning, but our dinner would not be complete without a strawberry filled dessert

And just time for one final view …..

Farewell to the Dordogne and to France. It’s been a truly lovely experience.
