Sara’s sojourn to the Sapphire Coast

Day 2: Boydtown to Saltwater creek

I told you yesterday about Ben Boyd. Well our first visit today was to Boyd’s tower- the lighthouse which he tried to build to serve his shipping needs. But he didn’t get permission to build it so it never really functioned. But it has a nice view!!

From there we started what is called the “Light to Light” walk from Ben Boyd’s illegal lighthouse to Green Cape lighthouse. It’s a 32 km walk but today we only did 15 km. It goes through the Beowa National Park which used to be called Ben Boyd national park. The aboriginal community lobbied for the name change because of Ben Boyd’s bad “black-birding” practices. Beowa means “orca whale”

The walk winds along the coast where there are magnificent red rocks. It is a lovely undulating walk.

Here’s some pictures from along the track.

We were all pretty happy when we reached the end.
